The chute from the back

It's 3:51 PM on Friday, December 29, 2000. We just finished setting up the tent and stopped to look around and enjoy the ambience. Only the 72-hour runners were on the track, with one early-starting 48-hour runner, one 24-hour runner, and one man from Canada who was trying to break the world 55-year-old age group record for 100 miles. (Or maybe it was 100K.) The heat got to him, and he quit late in the afternoon. I didn't remember his name.

That's Suzy on the right. Our gray and red tent is visible through the canopy, between her and the clock. The runner passing over the chip-sensing mat is 24-hour runner Pat Upah, whose husband was the early-starting 48-hour runner, so is also out there somewhere.
