West Again

Back Top Forward

We're on the west side again, running the opposite direction, which means the time is probably between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Cyra-Lea has changed out of blue jeans into shorts.

She accompanied me in three-mile segments, except that I believe one time she must have run four miles, because I know she ran a total of ten miles. I was doing a pattern of running four laps (just a shade short of a mile), and walking one, which I kept up until late into the evening. Cyra-Lea did not count the laps we walked in her own tally. Her total did not count the distance she did with me the next morning, when she was with me for about the last half hour of the race.

Notice the opening in the gate behind us. We had access to the inside of the school, including the bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers. Some of the six-day runners had cots just inside the door, where I'm sure they slept more comfortably than they would have if they had been in cold tents.
