Here I am, looking even stupider than usual (what can I say — I'd just run for 24 hours), talking to race official Gordon Chace, from Minnesota. I had gotten well acquainted with Gordon by email over the previous year, and learned almost everything I knew about the race before actually arriving to run it from the useful information he sent me. Gordon is an engineer and an expert on fixed-time timing systems, a man who attacks every problem with an engineer's mentality. We were both way to busy to do more than say hello any time during my Olander experience, but it was nice to touch base.
