I'm sure I was the only one wearing them, but I've found that given enough hours, even on a smooth course like this, you are going to pick things up in your shoes, and who wants to deal with the irritation, or stop to shake them out? I never picked up a single pebble, and my feet were still fresh as daisies when I finished.
