Harold Sieglaff's low-tech aid station

Index   Previous   Next

The first time I saw this shoe, I thought it was lost or abandoned. I considered picking it up and turning it in, but ignored it. On the afternoon of the first day, I saw Harold Sieglaff stop and put a styrofoam cup in the shoe, which is when I realized this shoe was serving as his aid station. I later learned that Harold also used it as a pointer. He left the shoe pointing in the direction he last walked so when he went to his tent at break time he would remember which direction to begin walking when he got back again.

Perhaps some of the rest of us would benefit from a more minimalist approach as well.
